Notes on the Cinematographer

– with a nod to Robert Bresson
and Au hasard Balthazar

Words push against
other words to say
what is most needed
And here I write
what is found is irrelevant
what is hidden is your life
the desire to destroy
the erotic the spiritual
the singular moment
Flatten the moment
Write nothing
Let the silence
be everything
The nightingale is loved
for its song and its song
is always the same
The donkey breathes
and we are changed
The sheep bell reminds us
of the need to be lost
And the piano finds
perfection in the space
between each note
