In early 1995 the editor of Mississippi Review set out to start an online literary magazine consisting of selected pieces from the parent magazine (MR) and new material not previously published. This was the beginning of MROnline, aka Blip Magazine. The idea was to publish a free digital literary magazine comprised primarily of original full-length content.

Blip Magazine eventually became New World Writing, a name selected as an homage to the famous literary magazine of the 1950s. The entire back catalog of the project is accessible via the links below. Some of the material published 1995–2010 came from the print edition of MR, and we thank the authors of these works for permission to reprint those items here. Indeed, we thank all of the authors for permission to print their work as part of the New World Writing archive.
